Standing Spruce, Daala Soap

After a long wait and contemplation this creation is ready. Daala , my daughter and the haida word for rain. How do you encapsulate the essence of the rain? How do you target water that falls from the sky? So you target its emotion, and feeling through colour, with scent. I have tried by adding in my favourite pieces and memories of times it rained. The smell of wet driftwood , and grasses by my favourite beaches. The colour of the wet rocks of the shore, and sand of the beach when you dig down beneath the surface. Far off rock bluffs on the edge of the sea on a stormy day. Rain falling onto seaweeds beside the shores…i’ve brightened dark earthy patchouli using citrus, and calmed them both with briny local kelps, and subdued cedars… this blend has created something different, something you can’t put your finger on.
